So it appears that my pants from Motorcycle Closeouts have shipped. Yippee! Let’s just hope it’s the right item.

So today I cancelled the order for the HT Air pants from Tonker. Tonker’s website still says they are in stock, and no one there seems to really care about it. I can’t say that it was a terrible experience, they did tell me they were out of stock quickly, and the other items shipped promptly, but if you order from them, just don’t trust their stock information.
Instead I’ve ordered from Motorcycle Closeouts. They say that they have 2 in stock. They do have a disclaimer that it also includes the stock at their supplier, which is only updated weekly, but at least they are up front about it. We’ll see what happens.

Ok, so I still haven’t gotten the pants from Tonker. So I’ve been riding with my old pants and the new jacket. This makes me cool on the top, warm on the bottom and I feel just like a McDLT

Got my new mesh jacket yesterday, First Gear Mesh Tex II. I wore it today and this thing breathes really well if you are moving at all. I actually got a bit chilly this morning on the way in. It has a “waterproof” liner that should help if the mornings get too cold, but I didn’t need it this morning. The liner material itself may be waterproof, but it’s coverage is somewhat limited and there’s a big cutout so you can access the pockets, so I doubt it would actually keep you dry, but it should help keep out the wind.
However, I think it does compromise somewhat on the protection. The armor is pretty thin, and the material is, naturally, not as heavy as my other gear. I may upgrade the armor at some point. I think this is just the compromise you have to strike to get comfortable in the hotter weather. Someday I may have to pony up for the Motoport Ultra II Air Mesh Kevlar Jacket but at $430 it’s a tough sell.
Unfortunately, the pants are still on backorder, and yes, the Tonker website still says that they are in stock. ;(

Lookee that, I completely forgot that today was Ride to Work Day. Good thing I happened to ride in anyway since it was such a nice day out. Fair number of bikes in the parking lot, though not an unusually high number for a nice day.
